TEXAS OUTLAWS SERVE UP THE UTICA RIGGIES IN OVERTIME
MESQUITE, Texas (January 21, 2024) – Texas Outlaws won 9-8 in overtime against the Utica Riggies (Utica City FC) at the Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, New York. The Outlaws are now 7-3-1 and the Riggies are 8-2-1.
The game in Utica started with a quick goal 50 seconds in from Luiz Morales, assisted by Jorge Deleon, to put the Outlaws up by 1 early in the first quarter. This was Morales’ 20th goal of the season. Eduardo “Pollo” Cortes had 4 saves against shots from the Riggies. In the 11th minute of the first quarter, Erik Macias was issued a blue card for the Outlaws for tripping. Fortunately for the Outlaws, the penalty was killed and the Outlaws ended the first quarter up 1-0. In the second quarter, Brenden Lee was issued a blue card in the 2nd minute for the Outlaws, putting the Riggies on an early powerplay. Taylor Walter Bond, assisted by Nilton de Andrade, scored for the Riggies during the powerplay in the 3rd minute. In the 4th minute, the Riggies took the lead with a goal from Emmanuel Belliard. In the 9th minute, Sebastian Mendez tied it up at 2 for the Outlaws, goal assisted by Emmanuel Aguirre. Juan Alava was issued a blue card for the Riggies in the 10th minute, putting the Outlaws on a powerplay. During the Outlaws powerplay, Luiz Morales scored his second goal of the game, his 21st of the season. The goal was quickly countered by the Riggies with a goal from Franck Tayou, assisted by Ronaldinho Diniz, in the 12th minute. The first half ending with Pollo making 3 back-to-back saves and the score 3-3.
In the 3rd quarter, Cole Stephens gave the Riggies the lead with an assist from Franck Tayou. Jorge Deleon tied the game at 4 for the Outlaws in the 10th minute, assisted by Sebastian Mendez. The third quarter ending in a 4-4 tie. Andy Reyes took the lead for the Outlaws in the first minute of the fourth quarter, assisted by Emmanuel Aguirre. Lucas Ramalho gave the Outlaws the a 2 point lead in the 3rd minute, unassisted. Nilton de Andrade gave the Riggies their 5th goal in the 6th minute of the fourth quarter, but was quickly countered with a second goal from Andy Reyes. Then the Riggies scored quickly again in the 6th minute, once again by Nilton de Andrade. In the 10th minute, Eduardo “Pollo” Cortes was issued a blue card for a goalkeeper handball outside the box, but the shootout by the Riggies failed. In the 12th minute, Taylor Walter Bond tied the game for the Riggies at 7-7. Luiz Morales got his hattrick goal of the game in the 13th minute for the Outlaws. With an extra attacker in the last 10 seconds of the final quarter, Taylor Walter Bond tied the game a 8-8, sending the game into overtime.
Jorge Deleon scored the golden goal and his second goal of the game in the 6th minute of overtime. Outlaws winning 9-8.
