Texas Outlaws Celebrate Trio's Call-Up to United States Futsal Men's National Team

MESQUITE, Texas — (January 9, 2023) The Texas Outlaws are thrilled to announce that three of their players, David Ortiz, Luiz Morales, and Sebastian Mendez, have been called up to represent the United States Futsal Men's National Team during the camp being held January 14-19 in Rome, Georgia.


David Ortiz, captain of the Texas Outlaws, first was called up in 2021. Ortiz was also a member of the United States team during the FIFA Futsal World Cup in 2021. So far during the Major Arena Soccer League season, Ortiz has racked up 5 goals and 4 assists for the Outlaws.


Luiz Morales, a standout performer for the Texas Outlaws, has been called up for the United States since 2022. Morales is the current MASL leader in goals, having scored 16 so far this season. He also is on the leaderboard for his 5 assists and 5 powerplay goals. Morales previously was the 2021-2022 MASL Rookie of the Year and is currently a contender for the 2023-2024 MASL MVP.


Sebastian Mendez, know for his young and energetic field presence, has been called up for the United States since 2022. He is currently on the MASL leaderboard for his 9 goals and 8 assists so far this season. At the end of the 2022-2023 MASL season, Mendez was the highest ranking in league points with 41 points total consisting of 27 goals and 14 assists.


General Manager, Brad Namdar, expressed his excitement about the players' call-up, stating, “We are tremendously proud of our players that have been called up to represent the USA. The state of Texas is proud of them.”


Head Coach Tatu is also excited about these three players, saying, “It is always a special moment when a player gets called up to represent their country and we are proud of their hard work that has led them to this opportunity.”
