OUTLAWS TRADITION CONTINUES WITH 5-3 WIN OVER THE COMETS

Mesquite, TX (December 11, 2022)- The Tradition continues for the Mesquite Outlaws (2-0-0) after their 5-3 win over the Kansas City Comets (1-1-1) at Mesquite Arena last night.


Mesquite and Kansas City started the first quarter each taking shots on goal. 12 minutes and 9 seconds into the quarter, Isaias Robles put the Outlaws ahead 1-0, after taking a shot off the board, 1-0. Robles is a rookie joining the Outlaws and the Major Arena Soccer League, and this was his first goal of the season.


One minute into the second quarter, Jorge Deleon scored, with an assist from Luiz Morales, putting Mesquite up 2-0. Deleon rejoining the Outlaws after previously playing for them before their two-year hiatus. Five minutes into the second quarter Comets were on the board when James Togbah scored, putting the ball through the legs of Pollo, and putting the score at 2-1. The half ended with 11 shots on goal for Kansas City and 19 for Mesquite, and the score remaining at 2-1.


The Comets dominated the shots in the third quarter, having 7 shots on goal. The third quarter was scoreless, keeping the score at 2-1 Outlaws.


The fourth quarter started with a Comets goal 30 seconds in, scored by Lucas Sousa, tying the game at 2-2. A blue and yellow card were issued to Luiz Morales, for boarding and dissent. Outlaws challenged the call, but it was ultimately a good call, and the penalty was served. Sebastian Mendez scored, putting the Outlaws back on top 3-2. Sebastian Mendez scored his second goal of the night during the powerplay. Comets player, Felipe Abreu, scored again 13 minutes in, with an extra attacker, putting the score at 4-3 Outlaws. Final goal of the night was scored 30 seconds later by David Ortiz, putting the ball in the empty net, putting the Outlaws on top with a final score of 5-3.


Eduardo “Pollo” Cortes continues to be a contributing factor for the Outlaws. His save percentage for the season is 90%, leading the league. His total saves for this game were 24.


The Outlaws now face the Empire Strykers on the road on Friday, December 16th. Kickoff is set for 9:05 PM CST.
