OUTLAWS SPLIT DOUBLE HEADER WITH THE SAVAGE

MESQUITE, Texas (February 13, 2023)- Mesquite Outlaws split double header with the Chihuahua Savage at Mesquite Arena in Mesquite, Texas. The Outlaws lost 4-6 Friday, February 10th, but bounced back Saturday, February 11th, with a 6-5 win over the Savage.


On Friday, the first quarter started with a goal from the Savage in the third minute of the first quarter, scored by José Antonio Medina. A yellow card was issued to Sebastian Mendez for the Outlaws for a delay of game violation. A second goal was scored by the Savage at even strength, by Bryan Macias in the 10th minute. The first quarter ended with the Outlaws down 0-2. Macias scored his second goal of the night for the Savage in the third minute of the second quarter. Savage scored again in the ninth minute, with a goal from Hugo Puentes, putting the Outlaws down 0-4. A goal was finally scored for the Outlaws with a little over three minutes left in the half. 40 seconds later, the Savage scored again with a goal from Carlo Hernandez. The half ending 1-5 Savage.


Emmanuel Aguirre scored for the Outlaws in the ninth minute, ending the third quarter with the Outlaws down 2-5. Axel Chakounte scored the third goal for the Outlaws in the fourth minute of the fourth quarter, now 3-5. A blue card was issued to the Savage in the sixth minute for too many men, served by Carlos Hernandez, putting the Outlaws on the power play. Jorge DeLeon scored during the power play in the seventh minute, putting the Outlaws just one goal away from tying up the game. The final goal of the game was scored by the Savage, scored by Enrique Canez. The Outlaws losing 4-6.


On Saturday, the first quarter started with a goal from the Savage in the third minute of the first quarter, scored by Edgar Gonzáles. The Outlaws got the chance tie the game at 1-1 in the 13th minute, with a goal by David Ortiz. In the second quarter, Isaias Robles put the Outlaws ahead 2-1 at halftime. The Outlaws outshooting the Savage 9-8.


In the third quarter, Axel Chakounte scored a power play goal for the Outlaws in second minute, after Robert Escalante was given a blue card for tripping. Chakounte scored his second of the night in the fourth minute at even strength, the Outlaws up 4-1. Jorge Ríos scored for the Savage in the sixth minute, and then again in the eighth minute, score now 4-3 Outlaws. Jorge DeLeon scored in the 10th minute for the Outlaws, putting the score at 5-3 at the end of the third quarter. In the fifth minute of the fourth quarter, Edgar Gonzáles scored a short handed goal for the Savage after Huego Puentes was given a blue card for tripping. Chakounte scored his third goal of the night in the 12th minute. Carlos Hernandez scored for the Savage in the 14th minute, but ultimately came up short. The Outlaws winning 6-5.


 The Outlaws are now 9-3-2, and the Savage are now 10-2-1.


Many key players for the Outlaws were missing over the weekend due to injuries and prior commitments, including Pablo Da Silva, Luiz Morales, Stephen Gonzales, and Steven Chavez. 


The next game for the Outlaws is Saturday, February 18th against the San Diego Sockers at Mesquite Arena in Mesquite, Texas. Kickoff is at 7:05 pm CST.
