OUTLAWS CLINCH SPOT IN 2022-2023 RON NEWMAN CUP

MESQUITE, Texas (April 1, 2023) – Mesquite Outlaws win 7-2 against the Empire Strykers in Mesquite, Texas. This win clinched the Outlaws’ spot in the 2022-2023 Ron Newman Cup, the first in their history.


The first quarter scoring started with a goal in the 6th minute of the match from Brenden Lee, giving the Outlaws an early lead. In the 12th minute, Gabriel Costa, Empire Stryker rookie, scored to tie the game. Outlaws took the lead again with just a minute and 30 seconds left in the first quarter, goal scored by Emmanuel Aguirre. Outlaws up 2-1 going into the second quarter. Luiz Morales started the second quarter with a goal in the first minute, now putting the scoring gap at 2. Franck Tayou, scored two minutes later for the Strykers. Morales scored is second goal of the night in the 4th minute, Outlaws proving to be strong in the match. The Outlaws ended the first half with a 4-2 lead.


In the third quarter, Morales scored his hattrick goal of the night in the 5th minute. Robert Palmer for the Strykers found himself in the penalty box after receiving a blue card in the 9th minute for pushing. Sebastian Mendez, who was on the receiving end of Palmer’s foul, scored during the power play. Mendez, scoring his 27th goal of the season. In the 11th minute, Erik Macias for the Outlaws, received a blue card for boarding, ultimately the Outlaws killing the penalty. Mohamed Ndiaye gave the Outlaws another powerplay in the 13th minute, after getting a blue card for tripping, as well as a yellow card for major penal penalty. Outlaws ended the third quarter up, 6-2. In the fourth quarter, both teams continued to fight causing multiple fouls and shots on goal. Aguirre found another shot in the back of the net in the 5th minute of the final quarter. Outlaws outshot the Strykers 23-21 and won the game 7-2, clinching their playoff spot.


The Outlaws finish the regular season 12-9-3 and with 37 points. The Strykers finish their regular season the same. The Strykers fate lies in the hands of the Monterrey/Dallas game on April 2nd.
