On Sunday, October 23rd, 2022, the Major Arena Soccer League held its first Combine Draft at the Statler Hotel in Dallas, Texas. The Mesquite Outlaws began the draft with the second, first round pick, in which they did a three-way trade to acquire Jorge DeLeon from the Empire Strykers, and sent their first round, number two pick to the Tacoma Stars. The Tacoma Stars then traded the rights of Ismael DeLuna to the Empire Strykers.

“We made a fantastic trade for an incredible player to come back home,” Mesquite Outlaws Head Coach Tatu stated.

Later in the night, The Mesquite Outlaws drafted two more players from the Combine. The second round, second pick, was Omar Khan. Khan is a winger from Dallas, Texas. Khan spoke about the draft saying, “I’m glad to have been able to be a part of the MASL inaugural Pro Player Combine. I want to thank the coaches and the staff at Mesquite Outlaws for drafting me, and shoutout to everyone who made the combine happen, as it was an outstanding event.”

The third round, second pick, was Ryan Miles. Miles is a forward from Ogden, Utah. When asked about his experience in the draft, Miles said, “The draft was an incredible experience. Hearing your name called and where you came from was a moment I’ll never forget. I’m excited to learn from our legendary coaches Mesquite and start the real work.”

The first Major Arena Soccer League Combine and Draft was a success. Teams from across the league came together to coach and train the next generation of indoor soccer players. Annual Major Arena Soccer League combine drafts and college drafts, and the details regarding them, are expected to come in the near future.
