MESQUITE OUTLAWS LOSE SECOND MATCH AGAINST MONTERREY FLASH, 8-10

MESQUITE, Texas (Jan. 11, 2020) – The Mesquite Outlaws lost an intense game to the Monterrey Flash, 8-10. Although the Outlaws were able to keep up with the Flash, and at certain points of the game, tied them, they couldn’t make up the points needed to win. Attendance at the game was 3,656.


The game started on a positive note for Mesquite Outlaws fans, with a goal less than five minutes into the game from Outlaws midfielder Oscar Romero with an assist by forward Shaun David. From then on, the Monterrey Flash answered nearly every Outlaws goal with one of their own. Flash defender Hector Vallejo scored next. Midfielder Jorge Rios, who then scored the next goal assisted by midfielder Miguel Vaca, assisted Vallejo’s goal. The second period began with two back-to-back goals from Outlaws forward Jamie Lovegrove, both assisted by forward VcMor Eligwe. Flash Defender Roberto Escalante, assisted by forward Hugo Puentes, scored the next goal, with Puentes following with another goal, unassisted. The first half closed with Rios scoring the last goal on a power play.


In the second half, Outlaws defender Cody Ellis scored an unassisted goal on a power play. Ellis’ goal was answered by Flash defender Victor Quiroz and assisted by Rios. Next, Eligwe, assisted by midfielder Jorge Deleon, scored his first goal of the game. Vallejo, assisted by Puentes, scored another Flash goal. The fourth period opened with two Outlaws goals – one from Ellis, assisted by forward Anthony Powell, and the next, a bicycle-kick shot made by forward Bradlee Baladez, assisted by Defender J.J. Oteze. The Flash next scored three goals in a row – a hat-trick goal made by Rios, assisted by defender Damian Garcia; an unassisted goal by Escalante and the last by forward Adriano Nunes. Mesquite pulled goalkeeper Eduardo “Pollo” Cortes in favor of a sixth attacker, Ellis. Baladez managed to score the Outlaws’ last goal unassisted, leading to the 8-10 final score.


The Outlaws’ next game is vs. the Turlock Express on Jan. 18 at 6:05 p.m. at Turlock Indoor Soccer. Games can be viewed on MASL.tv.
