menuMESQUITE OUTLAWS DRAFT THREE PLAYERS IN THE INAUGURAL MASL COLLEGE DRAFT
MESQUITE, Texas (December 21, 2022) – On Tuesday, December 20th, the Mesquite Outlaws participated in the inaugural Major Arena Soccer League draft via Zoom.
With the 14th overall pick in the first round, the Outlaws selected Forward Fort Worth native, Giancarlo Saldana from West Texas A&M University. Saldana was LSC Offensive Player of the Week 5 times and was awarded Newcomer of the Year in Spring of 2021, as well as United Soccer Coaches Division II National Player of the Week. In 2021, Saldana was First Team All South-Central Region. In 2022, he was Second Team All-Conference and D2CCA Second Team All South-Central Region.
In the second round, with the 28th overall pick, the Outlaws selected Defender, Mitchell Cashion, from Tulsa University. Cashion is originally from College Station, Texas. Cashion is a three-year letter winner and has started in in 31 of 37 games. He has a total of two goals and five assists. He was named in 2021 to the “College Soccer News” Team of the Week and the “Top Drawer Soccer” Team of the Week.
In the third and final round, with the 42nd pick overall, the Outlaws selected Midfielder, originally from Houston, Brandon Martinez-Trelles. Trelles attended Midwestern State University. Trelles was awarded United Soccer Coaches All South-Central Region and LSC Postseason All-Tournament Team in 2022. He has a total of five goals and four assists in his career.
Drafted player rights will be protected for the player to go to contract with the team until December 1, 2023.
Next game for the Outlaws is on the road against their cross-town rivals the Dallas Sidekicks. The game will be played at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas at 7:00 pm CST. The game will be streamed live on the MASL Twitch account.
